I found a company that provides a free laptop and they claim that all I have to do to receive it is to provide my name, address and social security number and sign the receipt. My questions are, “Is this safe? Can they ruin my credit? Am I obligated to pay for this laptop somehow? Why do they need my social security number? Can I return the laptop if I read the contract and don’t like the deal?”

The questions asked by this gentleman are common questions people ask when they learn about any of these free laptop programs. Unfortunately, there are no hard line answers that cover all of the offers. The fact is, some of the offers are real and some of them are not. The ones that are real are going to require that you purchase something else from the company in order to receive the free laptop. If you fail or refuse to go through with the purchase, they are going to ruin your credit and you certainly don’t want that to happen.

A NAS Failure Means Trouble

Almost by definition NAS device failure tends to be more critical than other storage devices going down. The reason being of course that an NAS is typically accessed by many users.
